The International Youth Academy is a special cultural program for high school-school-aged youth from around the world. Students get an opportunity to improve their conversational English while having fun, developing new understanding of teens from many different cultures and gaining lifetime friendships. The program is for six weeks and provides invaluable experience that hopefully forms a foundation and meaningful view of the world and especially potential of what is possible.(www.toledosistercities.org/aboutus/what-we-do/international-youth-academy/) Tanga Sister City was pleased to sponsor two students and a chaperone from Tanga, Tanzania to be part of this incredible opportunity. The Tanga Sister City committee designed a fair selection process of the students. The International Youth Academy afforded the Tanga students a chance to meet other international students, chaperones and counselors. Through this experience, they networked and confidently delivered presentations. It was the hope that however brief the program was, a foundation was laid to empower and encourage the students to value education and instilled the drive to be an active participant in the world; making a difference not only for themselves but also their families, communities and country.
Committed to education, health and self-sustainability.
